The service and these terms

Thunder Debates is operated by Cameron Lobban, also known as Thunder, trading as Thunder Debates. It is an 18+ service for reading, writing and reacting to text-based arguments. By using the service, you agree to these terms, the Discussion rules, the Privacy notice and the Cookie notice. If you do not agree, do not use or contribute to the service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old. The on-screen confirmation records your statement that you are 18 or older, but it does not verify your age. Do not use the service if the law that applies to you prevents you from doing so.

Your contributions

You retain ownership of your original words. You grant the operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, format, display, moderate, retain and, where necessary, disclose them for operating, securing and enforcing the service. The licence ends when the material is deleted, except for copies that must be retained for security, legal claims, lawful disclosure or controlled backups.

• Submit only text and evidence links that you have the right to share.
• You are responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of what you submit.
• Anonymous publication does not remove your responsibility under these terms or the law.

Acceptable use

Do not bypass security controls, probe for private information, interfere with availability, introduce malicious content, scrape or automate participation without written permission, impersonate another person, manipulate votes or use the service to target someone. Security testing requires prior written authorisation from the operator.

Moderation and illegal content

Contributions are assessed by risk rules. Low-risk content may publish immediately, medium-risk content may publish and enter priority review, high-risk content is held for review and critical prohibited content is blocked. Authorised moderators may review, label, redact, remove, restore, lock, preserve or disclose content and may restrict access. A Report control is available beside each point and comment so anyone can privately flag content they consider illegal or against the rules. A person affected by a moderation decision can use the moderation appeal form.

• Priority illegal content is prevented or removed using the proportionate measures described in the Safety approach, and other illegal content is removed swiftly once the operator becomes aware of it.
• The public Rules and Safety approach explain the moderation controls and how they are applied.
• Where a statutory child sexual exploitation and abuse reporting duty applies, the operator must make the required report through the proper authority. The application does not submit statutory reports automatically.

Accounts and security

Keep passwords, authenticator secrets, recovery codes and one-time links private. Tell the operator through a monitored channel once one is published if you believe an account has been compromised. The operator may end sessions or restrict an account where reasonably necessary to protect users or the service.

Availability and liability

The service and community content are provided without a promise of uninterrupted availability, accuracy or suitability for reliance. The operator does not endorse user contributions. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Changes and governing details

Material changes will be shown by changing the date on this page. The operator’s place of establishment is still needed before a governing-law and court clause can be stated accurately, so this draft does not invent one.
